Eating Out And Eating In
Eating Out
The United States is the home of fast food; but when it comes to eating out you’ll have a huge variety of choices; and in fact, you’ll find that many of the meals themselves are huge as well!
Each region of the country has it’s own specialties that you should be sure to try when you visit, including New England Clam chowder, Boston Baked Beans, Maryland Crab Cakes, New York Bagels, Philadelphia Cheese Steaks, and more!
Casual Dining restaurants are a big part of the American eating scene. Many of thes are chains a set of related restaurants with the same theme, décor, and menu offerings. If you go to 2 restaurants from the same chain on different sides of the country, you can expect to have nearly the same experience.
Casual sit-down restaurants usually serve alcoholic beverages, and offer meals in the $15-25 range. Of course, if you’d like to have a drink you’ll have to bring your ID to prove that you are at least 21 years of age, as that is the US law!
Eating In
No visit to the US is complete without a visit to the Supermarket. In suburban areas, these mega food stores are absolutely huge! You’ll find a much greater variety of products than here in Australia. Some stores have expanded so much that they include bakeries, coffee shops, dry cleaning, and photo labs as part of the supermarket!
Discount coupons for new products are regularly distributed in newspapers, and can be redeemed at supermarkets for discounts on purchases. In areas where there is stiff competition between supermarkets, they often offer ‘double coupon’ discounts, which mean saavy consumers can pay very little for quality products.
Hi, my name is Claire and I am living in a town just outside of Boston. I am settling in really well and having a lot of fun getting to know the area and meeting heaps of new people.
Hi! My names Lisa and I’m in the third month of my year in America. I live in a small town near New York City and I’m really beginning to settle in, I pretty much have a whole new life here now with friends, college and hopefully soon some volunteer work.
